Body Sculpting
Body sculpting refers to non-invasive cosmetic treatments designed to reshape and contour specific areas of the body by targeting fat, improving skin tone, and enhancing muscle definition.
These treatments use advanced technologies such as cryolipolysis (fat freezing), radiofrequency, ultrasound, or laser therapy to break down fat cells and promote natural body contouring. The treatments are designed to target stubborn fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise, providing a more toned and sculpted appearance.
Body sculpting treatments can target various areas of the body, including:
Abdomen: Reducing belly fat and improving overall abdominal contours.
Thighs: Slimming down inner, outer, or back thighs.
Flanks (love handles): Contouring the sides of the waist.
Arms: Reducing excess fat in the upper arms.
Back: Targeting fat in the upper and lower back.
Hips: Contouring the hip area for a more defined silhouette.
Yes, body sculpting treatments are generally safe when performed by a trained professional. They are non-invasive, meaning they do not require surgery, and there is little to no downtime. Most people experience minimal discomfort, such as a slight tingling, cooling sensation, or warmth during the procedure. Some treatments may cause temporary redness or swelling in the treated area, but these side effects typically subside within a few hours to a few days.
It’s always important to consult with a healthcare provider to ensure the treatment is right for your body and health conditions.
The number of sessions required for noticeable results depends on the specific treatment and the individual’s goals. Typically, 1-4 sessions are recommended for optimal results, with each session spaced a few weeks apart. Some people may see visible changes after just one session, but the best outcomes are often seen after a series of treatments. Results typically continue to improve over 2–3 months as the body naturally eliminates the targeted fat cells.
Red Light Face Therapy
Red light face panels are devices that use low-wavelength red light to treat the skin. These panels emit specific wavelengths of light, typically between 600 to 650 nanometers, that penetrate the skin’s layers to stimulate cellular activity. The red light helps to increase circulation, promote collagen production, and reduce inflammation. This process can improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of fine lines, and support overall skin health. Red light therapy works by stimulating the mitochondria in skin cells, encouraging them to produce more energy (ATP), which accelerates the body’s natural healing and rejuvenation processes.
Red light therapy for the face can address a variety of skin concerns, including:
Fine lines and wrinkles: By stimulating collagen and elastin production, red light therapy helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and promotes firmer, smoother skin.
Hyperpigmentation: It can help lighten dark spots, age spots, and other forms of pigmentation by promoting healthier skin cell turnover.
Acne: Red light therapy can reduce inflammation, helping to prevent and treat acne by targeting the bacteria that cause breakouts and promoting healing in the skin.
Rosacea: The anti-inflammatory properties of red light therapy can help calm redness and irritation associated with rosacea.
Sun damage: Red light therapy can aid in the repair of skin damaged by sun exposure, promoting the healing of sunburned or weathered skin.
Overall skin tone and texture: Red light therapy can help improve skin texture and even out skin tone by encouraging healthy skin cell turnover.
For optimal results, it’s generally recommended to use red light face panels:
Frequency: Typically, 3–5 times per week. This frequency can vary depending on your skin’s needs and the device you’re using.
Session length: Each session usually lasts between 10 to 20 minutes. This can vary based on the intensity of the device and the area being treated. It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific red light panel.
Red light face panels are generally safe for all skin types and are well-tolerated by most people. They do not cause harmful UV radiation, which can be damaging to the skin, making them a safer alternative to some other light-based treatments.
However, some potential side effects (although rare) may include:
Mild redness or irritation: After treatment, some individuals may experience temporary redness, but this typically fades quickly.
Increased sensitivity: In rare cases, individuals with highly sensitive skin may notice some sensitivity, especially if the treatment is too long or too frequent.
Eye protection: It is essential to avoid direct eye exposure to the light. Most red light therapy devices come with eye protection or recommend that you keep your eyes closed during sessions to prevent any potential eye strain or discomfort.
As with any new skincare treatment, it is recommended to start with a shorter duration and lower frequency to assess how your skin reacts. If you experience any discomfort or adverse effects, it is best to consult a dermatologist.
Infrared Sauna
Most people enjoy a 30-45 minute session, 3-4 times a week, but it is safe to use every day and at whatever heat suits you best. Research shows that regular use over time brings best results.
Proper sauna use is important; just like we warm up and cool down our bodies when we exercise, there are some basic steps to follow to ensure you gain maximum benefits of using a sauna.
Before Sauna Use:
- Drink a minimum of 236 mls. of water to prepare your body for an increase in core body temperature.
- Lay down towels on the bench to absorb sweat. It’s also nice to have an extra around to wipe your face during sessions.
During Sauna Use:
- Watch your time: Make sure to adjust your session length in accordance to your body’s needs. If you are just beginning with regular sauna use, it is important to start slow and get your body accustomed to infrared therapy. We recommend beginning with 10-15 minute sessions at 37°C every other day. Gradually increase toward 40 minute daily sessions in the optimal temperature range. Always listen to your body and adjust based on what it’s telling you.
- Stick with it for long-term benefits: Just as with exercise or eating healthy, sauna use takes time and consistency to see results. You may not even sweat the first few times you Use the sauna, but know that sweating (and the detox that comes with it) will increase over time, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and healthy. We recommend Pure Sweat amplifying cream, which increases sweating and circulation to boost results.
After Sauna Use:
- Rehydrate with at least 710 mls. of water or electrolyte drink.
- Dry off and cool down naturally, or with a refreshing shower.
You do not need to, but if you are concerned always use caution and feel comfortable to wear goggles. We do recommend you do not look directly into the near-infrared/red light panels.
Red light is visible, it is a different wavelength in the range from 620-750 nm and penetrates slightly less deep than near infrared. Near infrared is invisible, is wavelength between 720-900, and penetrates the body most deeply. Sunlighten’s mPulse delivers the peak wavelengths of 650nm and 880nm. Red light and near infrared are both bioactive and are absorbed by mitochondria, blood and water cells to initiate a variety of biochemical activities throughout the body that creates many health benefits, including skin health, pain relief, muscle recovery and anti-aging. Both are natural, safe, non-invasive and side-effect free.
We recommend putting your face as close to the panel as you feel comfortable.
Our LED panels deliver 1-3mW/cm2 of light to the skin delivering 3 J/cm2 every 15 minutes, 6 J/cm2 every 30 minutes and 10 J/cm2 every hour. After about 15 minutes, you will receive the benefits of NIR/Red light.
There are thousands of peer-reviewed research studies on the many benefits of red light and near infrared. The benefits are so similar, especially for the peak near wavelength that we integrated in mPulse first, based on the recommendation of infrared expert Dr. Henry Whelan. To integrate red light in our LED panels, we focused on the science that supports pairing red light at the peak wavelength with the most comprehensive benefits (650nm) to enhance the near infrared and its benefits even more. The red light will add to the current programs with near infrared. It’s an enhancement to what already exists.
Red light/near infrared loses effectiveness the farther away you sit. To get the full effect, find a comfortable position to sit in near the LED panel.
Cold Plunge
Most of the world’s leading experts recommend temperatures between 15 to 25 minutes.
Most of the world’s leading experts in ice bath recovery and contrast recovery therapy are now recommending slightly higher temperatures between 8 and 12 degrees but for up to 25 minutes.
You should not use lower temperatures until you have become well accustomed to no less than 8ºC and especially not without close supervision as lower temperatures can be dangerous and lead to hypothermia unless you have worked with experts to reach that stage safely.
Become familiar with your own limits and follow the advice of coaches, doctors and physiotherapists to get the biggest health benefits from your sessions.
To start out, you may want to first expose your feet and lower legs. As you get comfortable you can move toward your chest.
However we do not recommend immersing your head.
During a training session, your muscles burn fuel, leading to a build-up of toxic waste products and lactic acid. While your body naturally eliminates these waste products over a day or two, immersion in chilled water can expedite the process
significantly.
The sudden cold triggers a reaction in the limbic area of your brain, which is designed to respond to dramatic external changes. It senses the cold as a potential threat and activates an automatic response to restore your core temperature. This involves redirecting blood from your skin and outer tissues to your core, allowing the blood to pass through the liver, kidneys, and other organs, which work to remove toxins and waste products.
As a result, this process quickly alleviates soreness and helps torn muscles rebuild faster with fresh, oxygenated blood flow, enabling you to recover more swiftly for your next athletic session. Essentially, the cold water tricks your body into an ancient survival mode, leading to the efficient flushing of waste products from your blood.
Additionally, one of the most commonly reported benefits of regular ice baths is improved sleep patterns and a calmer mental state, a phenomenon that has been extensively documented by athletes.
PEMF Mat
PEMF therapy (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy) is a non-invasive treatment that uses electromagnetic fields to stimulate and promote healing in the body’s cells and tissues. It works by delivering electromagnetic pulses to specific areas of the body, which penetrate the skin and tissues, stimulating cellular activity. This process enhances circulation, reduces inflammation, and accelerates healing by improving cell function and regeneration. PEMF therapy is thought to help balance the electrical charge of cells, encouraging the body’s natural healing processes.
PEMF therapy can be helpful for a variety of conditions and issues, including:
Chronic pain: PEMF has been shown to help alleviate pain associated with conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, and back pain.
Inflammation: It can reduce inflammation, which is beneficial for conditions like tendonitis, bursitis, and other inflammatory disorders.
Bone healing: PEMF therapy is used to promote the healing of bone fractures and accelerate the recovery of bone injuries.
Wound healing: It may help with the healing of wounds, cuts, and scars by stimulating cell regeneration and improving blood flow.
Joint issues: PEMF therapy is commonly used to treat joint pain, stiffness, and conditions like osteoarthritis.
Muscle recovery: It can enhance muscle recovery after exercise, reduce muscle soreness, and improve overall muscle function.
Stress and anxiety: PEMF therapy may help in reducing stress and promoting relaxation by improving cellular function and blood circulation.
PEMF therapy is generally considered safe when used appropriately, and there are few side effects. However, some individuals may experience mild and temporary side effects, including:
Mild discomfort: Some people may feel a mild sensation or tingling during the therapy, which is generally harmless.
Temporary fatigue: After the treatment, some individuals may feel more tired than usual, which is usually short-lived.
Dizziness: In rare cases, individuals might feel light-headed during or after treatment, though this is uncommon.
There are also certain contraindications for PEMF therapy:
Pregnancy: PEMF therapy should be avoided during pregnancy unless otherwise recommended by a healthcare professional.
Pacemakers or implanted medical devices: Individuals with pacemakers or other implanted electrical devices should avoid PEMF therapy unless cleared by a physician.
Cancer: Those with active cancer should consult their doctor before using PEMF therapy, as the electromagnetic fields could potentially stimulate cell growth in cancerous tissues.
As with any therapy, it’s important to follow the treatment guidelines and consult a healthcare provider if you have any concerns.
- How long does a typical PEMF therapy session last, and how many sessions are recommended?
- typical PEMF therapy session usually lasts between 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the specific condition being treated and the device used. The frequency and duration of treatment vary:
For chronic conditions or maintenance: Sessions might be reduced to 1-3 times per week after the initial phase of treatment.
The number of sessions required depends on the severity of the condition and the response to treatment. Many individuals notice improvements after just a few sessions, while others may need a longer period of therapy.
However, it is important to consult your healthcare provider before combining PEMF therapy with other treatments to ensure it is safe and appropriate for your specific condition and health status.
Compression Therapy
Compression therapy involves the application of controlled pressure to specific areas of the body using compression garments or devices, such as sleeves, stockings, or boots. This pressure helps improve circulation, promote lymphatic drainage, and reduce swelling. The therapy works by gently applying pressure to the limbs or body, which helps push blood and lymphatic fluid back toward the heart and enhances the body’s natural processes of fluid removal and circulation. This can be especially effective for individuals experiencing poor circulation, fluid retention, or muscle soreness.
The main benefits of compression therapy include:
Improved circulation: Helps increase blood flow and oxygen delivery to tissues, supporting overall vascular health.
Reduced swelling and fluid retention: Can aid in the reduction of edema (swelling) by promoting the movement of excess fluid out of the tissues.
Faster muscle recovery: Reduces muscle soreness, fatigue, and inflammation by improving blood flow and aiding in the removal of metabolic waste products.
Reduced pain: Alleviates discomfort associated with poor circulation or conditions such as varicose veins, lymphedema, and chronic venous insufficiency.
Increased relaxation: The gentle pressure applied during compression therapy can promote relaxation and reduce stress.
Compression therapy can benefit a wide range of people, including:
Athletes: Helps speed up muscle recovery and reduce soreness after exercise.
People with chronic conditions: Especially useful for individuals with conditions such as varicose veins, lymphedema, chronic venous insufficiency, or deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
People with edema: Compression therapy can reduce swelling in the legs, arms, or other areas.
Pregnant women: Can help reduce swelling in the lower limbs.
People who sit or stand for extended periods: Helps improve circulation in individuals with sedentary lifestyles or jobs that require long hours of standing or sitting.
Compression therapy is generally safe, but it may not be suitable for individuals with certain conditions, such as:
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD): Where there is poor circulation to the extremities, as the increased pressure may worsen blood flow.
Infections or open wounds: Compression should not be applied to areas of infection, open sores, or skin damage.
Heart conditions: Those with serious heart problems should consult a doctor before using compression therapy.
Severe skin conditions: Individuals with severe dermatitis or skin conditions should seek medical advice.
A typical compression therapy session lasts between 20 to 45 minutes, depending on the treatment area and the device used. For best results:
For general wellness and recovery: Sessions can be done 2–3 times a week.
For specific conditions (e.g., swelling, lymphedema, varicose veins): Daily sessions might be recommended initially, with frequency reduced as symptoms improve.
Your healthcare provider or therapist will advise the best treatment frequency based on your needs.
Compression therapy is generally safe for most individuals when used correctly. However, potential side effects can include:
Discomfort or tightness: Some individuals may feel uncomfortable or experience a sensation of excessive pressure, especially if the compression level is too high.
Skin irritation: Prolonged use or ill-fitting garments can cause skin irritation or redness.
Numbness or tingling: If the pressure is too intense or applied for too long, it can cause temporary numbness or tingling.
Circulation issues: If not properly used, compression garments or devices can restrict circulation, so it’s important to follow the recommended guidelines and not wear them too tight.
If you experience any discomfort or unusual side effects, it’s important to stop therapy and consult a healthcare professional.
Red Light Therapy
Red light therapy (also known as low-level laser therapy or photobiomodulation) involves the use of red or near-infrared light to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. It works by penetrating the skin and tissues with light wavelengths typically between 600 to 650 nanometers (red light) or 800 to 880 nanometers (near-infrared). This light energy is absorbed by the cells, specifically the mitochondria, which helps produce more energy (ATP) and accelerates the body’s repair processes.
Red light therapy offers several benefits for both the skin and overall health, including:
Skin rejuvenation: Helps reduce wrinkles, fine lines, and signs of aging by stimulating collagen production, which improves skin texture and elasticity.
Wound healing: Speeds up the healing of wounds, cuts, and scars by enhancing cellular repair.
Reduced inflammation: Helps alleviate inflammation and promote healing in tissues, reducing conditions like acne, rosacea, and other skin irritations.
Improved circulation: Enhances blood flow and oxygenation to tissues, promoting overall vitality.
Pain relief: Reduces pain and discomfort by promoting anti-inflammatory effects.
Enhanced muscle recovery: Supports muscle repair by increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation after exercise or injury.
Improved mood and energy levels: Can boost energy and mood by improving cellular function and potentially increasing endorphin release.
A typical red light therapy session usually lasts between 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the specific device and treatment area. The frequency of sessions depends on the individual’s needs and goals:
For general skin health or wellness: 2-3 sessions per week may be sufficient.
For pain relief, injury recovery, or skin conditions: Daily sessions for 1-2 weeks may be beneficial, followed by fewer sessions as improvements are noted.
It’s best to start with more frequent sessions and adjust as needed, depending on the treatment goals and response.
Red light therapy is generally considered safe for most people when used correctly. It is non-invasive and does not cause significant side effects. However, potential side effects may include:
Mild skin irritation or redness: This is usually temporary and resolves shortly after treatment.
Eye strain or discomfort: Prolonged exposure to bright light may cause discomfort or eye strain, so it is important to protect the eyes or use goggles during treatment.
Worsening of some skin conditions: In rare cases, red light therapy may not be suitable for individuals with certain conditions, such as skin cancer or photosensitivity.
Overall, side effects are minimal, and red light therapy is well-tolerated by most individuals.
